Bagi, the Monster of Mighty Nature

I heard about this 1980s made-for-television anime film from a friend here on Dreamwidth; given the central role of an anthropomorphic cat-woman, I couldn’t resist. It opens in medias res with a score-old Japanese hunter, Ryosuke (or just Ryo), teaming with a South American boy, Chico (with the character costuming largely implying Mexico more than any other country), to track a monster terrorizing the countryside. Five years before, Ryo, also the son of a crime reporter father and geneticist mother, rides with his motorcycle gang and encounters a cat-woman named Bagi, a hybrid of a human and a puma.

The film relates the backstories of Bagi and Ryo’s mother, which culminates in stopping a conspiracy of scientists planning to unleash a strain of rice that can eradicate humanity, eventually returning to the present afterward. Overall, I found this a satisfying watch, even if I had to watch it in Japanese (but luckily with English subtitles), but the performances of the seiyū were superb. Given that the flaws of English voice acting are more readily apparent than those of a foreign language, this wasn’t a bad thing, and all the voices fit their respective characters. It’s on YouTube, so by all means, watch it.

Digital Art

Since it’s a leap year day, I created a yearling boy scout horse character. Yeah.

AI Art

DreamUp

I bought DeviantArt PRO+ since I’ve become an AI art junkie and I’ll try to see if I can’t make any money off of whatever AI art I create (though I know you can’t do so with Bing Create images). Today’s DreamUp theme was “leap” so I made wallpaper of purple bunnies leaping. I tried various features with anthro art, even with the “Anthro” category activated and several “negative” prompts attempted, but most of it turned out looking weird, and the system seems to really struggle when it comes to things like certain types of uniforms and hats (like campaign hats, which Bing Create seems much better at).

AI Fursona Generator (Perchance)

Another AI platform that really seems to struggle when it comes to specific uniforms and hats, but it’s good for exotic designs, so I decided to make adoptables out of these on DeviantArt, and I Googled and nothing says I can’t not do so as is the case with Bing Create.

Bing Image Creator

I really went medieval when it came to Bing Create images today since I wanted to redo older prompts adding the term “anthropomorphic” in addition to 1920s-era Boy Scout uniforms, and I think they really made a world of difference.

Today was Mexican Flag Day, so I AI-generated some mariachi bunnies:

I also did this Day of the Dead-themed birthday gift art for Peaches the Wolf, an artist I admire on FurAffinity and DeviantArt, and she loves Halloween themes.

Year-End Art Memes

I’ll try to make it a new year’s resolution to post some of my art here, but here are some memes I did today that demonstrate what I can do artistically. In particular, discovering FireAlpaca’s symmetry feature made doing anthro art a lot easier.

The Three Caballeros

Rewatched this this morning since today is Mexico’s Independence Day (which Cinco de Mayo, May 5th, is not, but instead Battle of Puebla Day). It follows Donald Duck’s birthday as he receives gifts from Latin American avians, the parrot José Carioca of Brazil (and his first name is pronounced “joe-zay,” not “ho-zay” since Portuguese speakers pronounced j’s mostly like Anglophones do) and the Mexican rooster Panchito Pistoles, who form the eponymous group and travel the world south of the United States. Pretty much a period piece as far as classic animation goes, but it’s mildly entertaining.

Weekly Artwork, 4/30/2023

Apparently April 27 was World Hyena Day for whatever reason, and Cinco de Mayo is forthcoming, hence this art. By the way, Cinco de Mayo is *not* Mexican Independence Day (which is September 16th), but instead celebrates the defeat by the Mexicans of the French when they attempted intervention in their country at the Battle of Puebla in 1862.
